The Speed Skating Club's Shaved Ice
Fri. 11/20 – Mon. 11/23
A shaved ice stand operated by the Kyoto University Athletic Association Speed Skating Club. For us, who normally compete on the ice, ice is an inseparable part of our lives—it’s like our “second home.” We shave this ice, which is more precious to us than life itself, to serve you the most exquisite shaved ice.
Short Track
The sport we usually compete in is “short-track speed skating.” We race around a track that’s 111.12 meters per lap multiple times to determine the final standings. Short-track speed skating is sometimes called “cycling on ice.” Most of our club members started competing in this sport in college!

Kyoto University Speed Skating Team
We are the Kyoto University Athletics Association Speed Skating Club. We typically focus on “short-track speed skating.” We compete by completing multiple laps of a 111.12-meter track to determine our rankings (e.g., 500m = 4.5 laps, 1000m = 9 laps). Because the turns are sharp relative to our speed, we need to lean our bodies deeply toward the inside of the track to prevent centrifugal force from throwing us off course. Even people unfamiliar with the sport will likely find themselves captivated by the sight. Most of our members started competing in college, and through consistent, dedicated practice over time, they’ve all mastered impressive skating techniques. We encourage you to look up “short track” and check it out.
