Bluegrass Live by Kyoto University Bluegrass Society
Sun. 11/22 – Mon. 11/23
What is Bluegrass?
The Kyoto University Bluegrass Club will be performing near the main gate of the Yoshida-South Campus. The music you hear near the gate may be bluegrass...♪ By the way, do you know what bluegrass is?
Some of you may be wondering what it is. Bluegrass is a genre of country music that originated in America and features acoustic instruments, such as the guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, dobro guitar, and upright bass. Have you found any instruments that interest you? Some of these instruments may be unfamiliar to you, so please come and listen to them at NF and enjoy the cheerful atmosphere unique to bluegrass!
Enjoy Bluegrass at NF!
We are a small and friendly group of around 30 members. Our activities mainly include participating in bluegrass festivals around the country, but we are also looking forward to performing at NF! Since we will be performing outside, we hope you will enjoy NF while listening to bluegrass music.
We will perform for two days at NF this year, on November 22nd and 23rd, and we will deliver cheerful songs that are perfect for NF! Each band has different characteristics, so you are sure to find a song you like! Please pay attention not only to the songs and vocals, but also to the solos of each instrument.
Perhaps a traditional jam session in bluegrass will begin...♪ Since bluegrass is played with acoustic instruments, one of its charms is that when a few people start playing a song, others spontaneously join in and make the music even more lively and exciting.

We usually practice at Kamo River, Kyoto University, and nearby facilities. Playing bluegrass music on a sunny day at Kamo River is a special experience! Since we are a small group, we practice in a warm atmosphere and have fun. Our main activities include participating in bluegrass festivals around the country to listen to and play music by each band, and deepening friendships within the society among various events. Among them, the Yoshida Festival, hosted by the Kyoto University Bluegrass Society, is preparing to invite bands from other universities and provide food and drinks so that many people can enjoy bluegrass. If you want to enjoy bluegrass even more, please come to the Yoshida Festival! Information will be posted on Instagram and X.
