At our workshop, you’ll learn the basic rules of hanafuda, then try your hand at a game!

We’ll explain the rules step by step, so no prior experience is needed. Of course, hanafuda masters are more than welcome too!

Hanafuda is a traditional Japanese deck of playing cards!

A deck contains 48 cards featuring seasonal flowers, plants, and scenes representing the twelve months of the year, from January to December.

There are many ways to play with hanafuda cards. At this workshop, you’ll get to try Koi-Koi, one of the best-known hanafuda games!

You collect cards to form scoring combinations called “yaku” and compete for points. Luck, strategy, and knowing when to take a risk all matter! 🔥

Once you’ve formed a yaku, do you end the round and claim your points, or call “Koi-Koi!” and keep playing for a higher score...?

Koi-Koi is easy to learn but has plenty of depth. Come experience the thrill of deciding whether to stop or keep going!
