MACRAME
Fri. 11/20 – Sun. 11/22
Sale of Independently Published Fashion Magazine: "Macrame"
Alongside our first issue, released last year, we will be selling the newly published second issue of Macrame. The magazine features essays reflecting each member’s personal perspective on fashion, visual and written documentation of the garment-making process, and case studies based on interviews with student groups and shops in Kyoto that approach clothing from their own unique perspectives. Together, these two issues embody the spirit of MACRAME, bringing together the serious and diverse ways in which our members explore and study fashion. We invite you to pick up a copy and take a look!
Exhibition and Sale of Members’ Fashion Creations
We will exhibit original fashion pieces created by some of our members as part of our fashion magazine project. From dismantling and reconstructing clothes they no longer wear, to remaking vintage garments into their own designs, or even experimenting with black dye at home, our members have explored a wide range of creative approaches. Come and discover, up close, how our members engage with clothing through the act of making.
Exhibition of Fashion Books and Research Materials
We will be exhibiting books and other materials that our members regularly use in their studies of fashion. Our selection ranges from theoretical works that explore how we think about fashion, to lookbooks from renowned brands, and even Six, the legendary visual magazine published by Comme des Garçons. This is a truly one-of-a-kind collection, and all materials will be available for browsing. We will also provide a dedicated reading area where visitors can sit back, relax, and explore the materials at their own pace.
Flea Market Featuring Members’ Personal Collections
Our members will bring together clothing from their personal wardrobes to create a small flea market in one corner of our exhibition space. Browse a diverse selection of unique pieces, and strike up a conversation with the people selling them along the way!
Joint Project with the Kyoto University Vintage Clothing Club
We are excited to present a special collaborative project with the Kyoto University Vintage Clothing Club, which will be sharing our exhibition space! The event is being designed to encourage active participation from visitors, too. Let’s cross the boundaries between student groups, exhibitors, and visitors to create a space like a garden—a place where people can come together, exchange ideas, and share moments of inspiration.

Kyoto University Fashion Society MACRAME
Founded in 2024, MACRAME is a fashion society originating at Kyoto University, with over 20 members from Kyoto University and other universities. Centered around the creation of ZINEs (independently published magazines), the society explores fashion through a variety of perspectives.
Its self-published fashion magazines, sold at events including Kyoto University's November Festival (NF), feature a diverse range of content, from personal essays in which members share their thoughts on fashion, to documentation of members' garment-making processes and case studies of external organizations and fashion retailers.
Beyond publishing, the society holds regular biweekly meetings and organizes occasional projects led by its members. MACRAME aspires to be a garden-like space where students who share a love of dressing and self-expression can exchange ideas, words, and inspiration.
